Material 1.0503, also known as C45 or AISI 1045, is an unalloyed medium carbon steel used as a heat-treatable steel. It offers a well-balanced combination of strength, toughness, and wear resistance, and can be easily quenched and tempered. C45 is widely applied in shafts, axles, bolts, gears, coupling components, and general machine parts subject to moderate mechanical stress. The steel also provides good machinability in its annealed state and achieves a uniform microstructure after heat treatment.
