Material 1.0601, also known as C60 or AISI 1060, is an unalloyed medium carbon steel used as a heat-treatable steel. With approximately 0.60 percent carbon, it offers high strength, good hardness, and excellent wear resistance while maintaining adequate toughness. C60 is typically used for shafts, bolts, springs, gears, knives, and tools subjected to higher mechanical stress. After quenching and tempering, the steel achieves a high surface hardness combined with good impact strength, while its machinability in the annealed condition remains satisfactory.
