Studer-Biennaform has been combining technical precision with Swiss quality since 1875. What began as a manufacturer of springs for the watchmaking industry has developed over generations into a leading specialist in cold-rolled precision flat wire. Today, we are part of the NOTZgroup – combining tradition with state-of-the-art technology.

More than 145 years of experience
in flat wires and precision
When two become one
The EZM-Biennaform AG, a stainless steel drawing mill based in Biel with roots going back to the 17th century, was acquiered by the NOTZgroup at the end of 2012 and renamed Biennaform AG at the beginning of 2013.
Studer SA, a producer of flat-rolled steel products, had already been integrated into the Group in 2003, resulting in a duplication in the portfolio. In order to leverage synergies in production and to bolster capacity, merging the two companies was a logical step. The merger took place in 2014 with the formation of Studer-Biennaform AG.
Growth with vision
In the early 2000s, the company entered a phase of dynamic growth – driven by the search for a strong strategic partner. Studer SA found that partner in the NOTZgroup: its flat products perfectly complemented the group’s existing portfolio. The merger strengthened the market position of both companies – and ensured that a long-standing success story continues together.
Expansion of production
A consistent marketing strategy and a strong focus on quality lead to significant growth: annual production increases from 60 to over 1,000 tonnes – a milestone in the company’s development.
Change of strategy
100 years later, the focus has changed to flat wire: spring production is discontinued. Studer SA then concentrates exclusively on the production of cold-rolled wire.
Foundation
Back in the 19th century, the watchmaking industry places ever higher technical demands on springs. Studer SA is founded during this time. Initially, the company only produces springs. Later, it also manufactures flat wires for its own use.
